The story starts out with narration and the image of a man falling through a fissure into the dark. You see a book, open it and end up on the island shown in the book's moving image.
The island is bare except for some remarkable landmarks like a giant gear, half sunk ship, and giant tree among other things. You have to figure out what is going on through the puzzles. There are clues everywhere that point to the reasons this place is barren.
