Lips Debugging

07.14.08

So now that Lips has been announced I suppose I can talk about it a little. Well also a little as I really don’t know that much. I debugged it a bit a Microsoft and hot damn was it a pain to understand as all the comments were in Japanese! :P

Anyways it was somewhat exciting to see a giant directory full of text files with lyrics, another with album covers, and another with video files knowing that those lovely people who made Osu! Tatake! Ouendan were behind the wheel, here’s hoping it turns out great.

What some might find interesting is that I only get source code to debug and am never given any of the assets, aka graphics, so I can never actually run the game or see what it actually outputs to the screen. I just get pure code that I run tools over and debug.

The game we did before that was Gears 2 and that was another interesting case as the Unreal 3 Engine is C++ but nearly all of a game like Gears 2 is written in Unreal Script so it’s a whole different ballgame.

While this was supposed a more frequent column, I hope someone enjoys this infrequent techbabble :P
