One Step Closer to In-Flight Internet

04.02.08

Via Engadget:

So Aircell just nabbed itself the first and only approval from the FAA for air-to-ground mobile broadband for US domestic flights, meaning we’re that much closer to in-flight internet.

This is not exactly game news, but since I live in Hawaii, if I ever want to go anywhere, I have to fly. And the shortest distance between here and the next state takes between 4 and 5 hours, depending on the direction and speed of the wind. On top of that, I’m really scared of flying, so I need a lot of distractions. (You’d think after being on literally over 100 flights, I’d be used to it by now…) Reading a book, listening to music, or playing a handheld system doesn’t immerse me the way that online gaming can. In addition to time going by much more quickly, being able to play an online game in a dynamic, changing environment would be a much more effective distraction from those little bumps and dips that send me into a minor panic.
