Wii Worms: Space Oddity – A Short Review

03.23.08

Ah Worms, who doesn’t enjoy small invertebrates with heavy explosives? The Worms series returns in all its glory to the Wii, but is it worth the buy?

For a series know for its kookiness, A Space Oddity is a little lacking in the random department. There is of course the standard Bazooka, exploding sheep, and various other weaponry, but all of them felt unimaginative. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of lasers, mines, and spaceships, but no Holy Hand Grenade? Why don’t you just tear out my heart?

Another small gripe is the menu interface. While it all looks nice, the buttons are so small that if you’re playing on a TV under 40 inches, you’ll be hard pressed to scroll through some of the choices easily. I spent a good five minutes in my profile trying in vain to customize my worms, and it got to the point that I just left things at default because I didn’t want to deal with the tiny buttons. But hey, if you’re lucky enough to have the precision of a brain surgeon and the side of a barn as your screen, you should be fine.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that Worms for Wii is nowhere near as epic as it was for PC. Smaller maps with less worms means less carnage and cartoon mayhem. While a good game, it doesn’t live up to what Worms could be, and I for one will be sticking to Worms World Party.

  1. Poor worms :( They’re just a bit tired these days.
